Auditorium Remodel fund-raiser talent contest now July 10

The Sweet Home Auditorium Remodel Committee’s fund-raising SHARC Showdown talent contest has been rescheduled to July 10.

Local performing artists are invited to share their talents. The event will be held in the Sweet Home High School auditorium.

Performances will be judged, with prizes awarded to the top performers. Prizes include a 2014 Oregon Jamboree package that includes two three-day passes and swag, and passes to the Guitars Under the Stars festival in Lebanon in August.

As a fund-raising tool, spectators will be able to vote for their favorite acts for the People’s Choice Award.

Applications are available on the SHARC Showdown event page on Facebook or by e-mailing [email protected]. Applications may also be dropped off at The New Era office, 1313 Main St., and for more information, contact Sean Morgan at (503) 580-1045.

The contest, which begins at 7 p.m., is one of several fund-raising efforts to repair the high school auditorium and update lighting and sound. Curtains, sound and lighting are the largest expenses.

The cost of painting, repairs, new curtains, sound and lighting is expected to reach about $100,000. Donations for this project may be given directly to the Sweet Home Elks Lodge, (541) 367-3559. Donations are tax-deductible.

Repairs are under way via volunteer efforts by Ron Sharrah (portions of the stage), and contractors Jeff Parker (drywall) and Josh Darwood (concrete). Jim Swinehart will paint, with most of the paint donated by Rodda.

SHARC seeks volunteers to assist in different parts of the project. For more information, contact Ron Sharrah at (541) 231-7303.
