CASA luncheon

CASA of Linn County will hold an ASK Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, at the River Center, 3000 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.

LBCC seeking

outstanding alums

Nominations are being accepted through April 1 for the Linn-Benton Community College Distinguished Alumnus Award.

The award is open to former LBCC students who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in their profession or through service to their community, and who have completed at least 36 credits at LBCC.

Applications are available online at http://www.linnbenton.edu/distinguished-alumni. Nominees will be honored at a reception held May 7.

Gem and Mineral

Show March 29-30

Sweet Home’s 66th Annual Gem and Mineral Show will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30, at the Sweet Home High School Activities Gym.

The event includes displays of rocks and minerals from local and faraway locations, dealers, demonstrations, raffles and games, door prizes and food.

Admission is 50 cents per person, with children under 12 admitted free with an adult.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Drivers education

offered by LBCC

Registration is being accepted for Drivers Education held at Linn-Benton Community College’s Sweet Home, Albany and Corvallis campuses.

Approved by the Oregon Department of Transportation, LBCC’s course includes state-mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction, a three-hour parent/student orientation at first meeting, plus 12 hours behind-the wheel practice and driver observation.

Registration requirements include completed packet, fee, original driver permit and one photocopy. Registration packets are available at all centers or at http://www.linnbenton.edu/driver-education.

Students must register in person at one of the campuses. No online registration is available.

Cost for the course is $259 for ages 17 and under, $429 for ages 18 and over. For refund, class must be dropped 24 hours prior to start.

Linn-Benton Community College Sweet Home and Lebanon centers offer a wide variety of classes during spring term, beginning March 31.

Instruction is offered in computers, dog obedience, digital photography, “Life Stories” writing, relaxation and stress management, and many forms of exercise.

Costs and durations vary. Some classes are offered more than once, on different days of the week.

B&G Club offers

open house, more

National Boys and Girls Club Week will be held at the Sweet Home Club March 24-28.

The club will be open for day camp from 8 a.m. to noon for a $10 fee and noon to 6:30 p.m. free of charge for children with a current membership.

The week kicks off Monday, March 23, with A Day of Welcome, an open house to which everyone is welcome from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Light snacks will be served and there will be a tour of the club facilities, with an opportunity to engage in some games and activities and experience what the club has to offer.

The rest of the week will focus on core values such as academics and science experiments, healthy lifestyles, character and leadership and the arts. The week will end with a swimming party for those members who have completed their Passport to GREATness during the month of March.

Local site accepting kids’ art, writing

Linn County Kids Create, the local internet site for posting art and writing by Linn County students, is accepting submissions from students in grades six through 12 living in or attending any school in Linn County.

The deadline is April 30 for writing, artwork (via photos in jpeg format) or photographs (in jpeg format) for publication.

Meals on Wheels

weekly menu

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The lunch menu on Friday, March 21, is turkey or egg salad, lentil soup, carrot slaw, white dinner roll and spiced apples.

The menu for Monday, March 24, is chicken supreme breast or roast pork with gravy, whipped potatoes, green beans and tomatoes, squash bread and butterscotch bar.

The menu for Tuesday, March 25, is chicken and dumplings or spaghetti and meat sauce with a French roll, green peas and onions, Romaine iceberg salad and pineapple.
