Crawfordsville
will celebrate its Covered Bridge’s 83rd birthday party from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.
Bridge
Day admission is free and the public is invited. A History Booth
display will be available and Covered Bridge Cakes, available only at
this event, will be sold. Crafts will be available for purchase.
The
event also includes artisans from Linn and Lane counties, including
Mudmom’s Covered Bridge Pottery, Jelly Friendz, Ore-gon Pine Needle
Baskets, Celestial Turtle, Deane Morrow, Fanci’s Dream and Crazy
Woman Ranch.

Salmon
training this weekend
Salmon
Watch, a conservation education program sponsored by Oregon Trout,
needs volunteers to teach children about salmon lifecycles and
watersheds.
Session
topics include: salmon biology, riparian areas, macroinvertebrates
and water quality. Volunteers do not need degrees in the subject
areas to participate, though background in the area is helpful.
Would-be
volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend one of two free
trainings to get ready to teach one of the four topics to Linn-Benton
fifth- and sixth-graders, on Aug. 28 in Corvallis and Aug. 29 in
Albany.

Thy Neighbor
Love
Thy Neighbor Services, which is working to open a transitional
shelter in Sweet Home for older women, will hold a fund-raiser from 1
to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Sankey Park.
Local
bands will perform and food and drink, including cotton candy, snow
cones and popcorn, will be available. Volunteers are needed to help
with booths. The public is invited to enjoy music in the park.

After Five Connection will hold a dinner and special program from 6
to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at King’s Coffee House, 661 S. Main
St. in Lebanon.

writer Lori McNulty, who teaches a regular college class on the
subject, will share how to write one’s own story.
Guest
speaker Tanja Gorham from Inland City will speak about her journey
from fear and anger to peace and joy while caring for a disabled
husband and, now, her parents.

is $7 and credit cards are not accepted.

Meals
on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the
Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays,
Tuesdays and Fridays.
The
Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.
First-time
diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.
Suggested
donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea
upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.
The
lunch menu on Friday, Aug. 28, is pasta primavera or beef cabbage
bake, whole kernel corn, spinach Romaine salad, sunflower seed roll
and confetti cake.
The
menu for Monday, Aug. 31, is orange glazed chicken or beef liver and
onions, whipped potatoes, green peas, multigrain bread and peaches.
The
menu for Tuesday, Sept. 1, is western beef goulash or chicken rice
bake, mixed vegetables, spinach Romaine salad, wheat dinner roll and
orange whip.
