Grampa Tom’s Car

Show Saturday

The 20th Annual Grampa Tom’s Get-Together, hosted by the Cedar Shack, will be held Saturday, June 8.

The event is free to spectators. Car registration is $15.

Breakfast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. for $5 (free with registration) and the Cool Cars Motorcycles and Bikes Raffle, 50/50, food, and kid’s games will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will take place next to the Cedar Shack at 4102 Highway 20, Sweet Home.

Red, White and Blue Square Dance

Sweet Home Squarenaders will host a Red White and Blue Square dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Oak Heights school gym, 6th Avenue and Elm Street.

Plus begins at 7:30, with the dance at 8 p.m.

A potluck will be held at the break.

Square dance caller will be Leonard Snodgrass and Jackie Gale will cue round dances.

Suggested donation is $5.

GED info sessions

next week, in July

The Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Center, at 44 Industrial Way, will hold GED and Adult Basic Education classes starting in July.

Free orientations will be held at the Lebanon Center Monday and Tuesday, June 10 and 11, or July 1 and 2, from 9 to 11:50 a.m. or from 6 to 8:50 p.m. It is mandatory to attend both days of orientation before registering for classes.

A $30 enrollment fee is due at registration. Class will meet on Monday and Wednesday beginning July 8 at the LBCC Lebanon Center.

Christian women to meet June 11

Lebanon Christian Women’s Connection will hold its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Bing’s Kitchen at 2416 S. Santiam Highway in Lebanon.

The theme is “Blue Skies Smiling On You.” Music will be presented by Wayne Field of Albany and guest speaker will be Wanda Lemkuhl of Payette, Idaho, a professional musician, teacher and writer who will share about her journey through depression and despair and the source of hope that brought new opportunities.

Cost is $12 inclusive. Complimentary child care is offered off-site.

meeting at SHPD

Court Appointed Special Advocates will hold a community information meeting from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the Sweet Home Police Department Community Room, 1950 Main St.

CASA is a volunteer organization that serves abused and neglected children who are in foster care.

Camp scholarship auction June 14

Fir Lawn Lutheran Church will hold an auction and baked potato supper at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, to send local youngsters to camp.

After last year’s success, the church hopes to send 16 campers this year. The cost of 16 campers will be approximately $6,000.

CASA car show at Ray’s in N. Albany

The Sixth Annual North Albany Car Show benefiting CASA of Linn County will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Father’s Day, June 16, at Ray’s Food Place parking lot, 621 NW Hickory St., Albany.

CASA advocates for abused children living in foster care.

Enjoy helicopter rides, an engine blow raffle, loud pipe contest, music, children’s activities and barbecue.

Linn-Benton Community College is offering fitness classes this summer.

A variety of classes will be offered in Lebanon, Scio, Sweet Home, and Brownsville, such as: Aquatic Fitness, Better Bones and Balance, Body Toning & Aerobics, Boot Camp, Cardio Strength and Balance, Cardio Strength and Tone, Easy Cardio, Easy Does It Exercise, Power Yoga, Rock’n to the Core, T’ai Chi, Yoga, Yoga Warriors, Zumba, and Zumba Toning.

Open registration is under way. Classes start the week of June 24.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The lunch menu on Friday, June 7, is homestyle turkey patty with gravy or country fried steak with cream sauce, whipped potatoes, glazed carrots, white bread and apple streusel cake.

The menu for Monday, June 10, is Oriental rice with turkey ham or chicken pomodoro, peas and carrots, spinach Romaine salad, caraway rye roll and peanut butter bar.

The menu for Tuesday, June 11, is turkey loaf with cream sauce or beef Swiss-style patty, whipped potatoes, broccoli cuts, onion bread and Mandarin pineapple cup.
