Fire destroyed a house Thursday evening, May 11, in the 28000 block of Ridgeway Road.
According to the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District, firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 6:16 p.m. and arrived to find the home fully involved, with fire venting from the door and all of the windows. The occupant had escaped the fire uninjured prior to SHFAD’s arrival.
The fire was quickly brought under control by 14 firefighters who responded with six apparatuses.
The fire was accidentally started by the occupant, who had been using a cigarette lighter, according to Battalion Chief Shannon Pettner.
The home was a complete loss, with damages estimated at $60,000.
Due to a new Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District policy, the occupant’s name was not released.
