SHFAD responds to 2 water rescues

At 6:37 p.m. on Friday, July 29, the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to a near drowning incident at Foster Lake, at the 43700 block of North River Drive.

Fire Chief Nick Tyler said a male teenager jumped off the Gedney Creek boat ramp and didn’t surface, at which point another teenage male went into the water after him, only to go under as well. He said that both teenagers were pulled out of the water and rescued by an adult male who happened to be coming back to the boat ramp.

The first teenager that jumped in was transported to a local hospital, Tyler said. The second teenager that went into the water was not transported.

Another water rescue, this time by the Fire District, occurred at 8:12 a.m. Saturday, July 30. A car drove off the roadway into the South Santiam River at the block of 52600 on Hwy. 20, Tyler said. The accident was non-injury, he said.
