Highway 20 project to cause closures near Sweet Home

The Oregon Department of Transportation announced Tuesday, July 27, a construction project to make U.S. Highway 20 east of Sweet Home safer by constructing a retaining wall, realigning and reconstructing a portion of road and repairing landslide damage.

The wall will be installed from milepost 56 to 56.2 to help slow slide movement.

The single-lane road width will be 11 feet through Friday, Aug. 13, an ODOT press release stated. Wider loads can be accommodated within 20 minutes. Flaggers will be installed between mileposts 54 and 57.

There will also be a three-day road closure after Labor Day weekend in September, as well as a two-week full road closure slated for May 2022, before Memorial Day weekend.

The overall work is expected to run through the rest of the year, with 24-hour single-lane closures scheduled through December.

The project is expected to be completed next August.
