Teen killed Saturday in crash near Sweet Home

An 18-year-old Sweet Home man died early Saturday morning in a crash on Crescent Hill Road, near the intersection of Highway 228 near Sweet Home.

Kolby Keenon was a passenger in a 1996 Ford Explorer driven by a 17-year-old Sweet Home male, who has not been identified.

They were traveling downhill, northbound, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the road’s oncoming shoulder, according to a Linn County Sheriff’s Office report. He then overcorrected, the report continued, sending the Explorer down an embankment about 85 feet from the roadway.

Keenon was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 12:23 a.m. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.

Sheriff’s deputies are still investigating the crash, but speed and alcohol appear to be factors, according to the report.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Multi-Agency Investigation Team, as well as the Sweet Home Fire Department, Albany Police Department and the Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
