Petition aims to restore restroom

A petition drive has been launched in Cascadia to secure funding for a restroom at the Short Covered Bridge.

A portable toilet has been situate at the bridge, which is the site of the U.S. Forest Service’s Cascadia Interpretive Center.

Organizer Dawn Mitchell said the portable unit was paid for by CARES Act funding, which has run out. She and others are asking the “powers that be” to fund a year-round restroom at the site.

Mitchell said she will gather signatures at the bridge at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, on a letter asking for a return of the portable toilet a that location.

The letter will also be available at the Jim Riggs Community Center, 880 18th Ave., until 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 for those who are unable to get to the Cascadia event.
