District to create facilities plan

During the next 10 months, the Sweet Home School District will develop a long-range facilities plan funded by a $25,000 grant.

By March 31, the district’s Business Office is tasked with completing population projections for the next 10 years. Central Office staff, principals and gLAs Architects will analyze the district’s facilities to determine if they meet “educational adequacy standards,” and the Business Office will develop a proposal to pay for future facility improvements, including funding estimates from potential revenue sources.

Through April 13, the district will seek parent, staff and community volunteers to participate in a high school facilities committee, a K-8 facilities committee and an athletics facilities committee.

The committees are scheduled to begin meeting to evaluate deficiencies, options and ways to improve the facilities by April 30. The K-8 committee will also evaluate current attendance boundaries and grade configurations at the schools.

Committees will complete their work by Sept. 1, and the committees will get together to prioritize needs and develop recommendations to the School Board.

The architects and Central Office staff will present a complete document to the board by Nov. 9 and then submit it to the state.
