State Forestry Champs

Members of the Sweet Home High School forestry team competed Friday and Saturday at the Hopkins Demonstration Forest in Oregon City. Sweet Home placed first with 378 points. Clatskenie placed second with 262 points, and Philomath finished third with 147 points. Sophomore Becky Belcher was top overall Jill with 99 points. Senior Lace-Anna Shiffert placed third overall with 69 points. Senior Christina Belcher was seventh overall with 34 points. Among boys, senior Zech Brown finished as the top overall Jack with 85 points. Senior Christian Black finished third with 54 points. Becky Belcher missed to the overall technical forester award by four points. “It was a lot of fun to watch them compete,” said Blake Manley, natural resources and forestry teacher. “It’s tough to defend a state title, but I look forward to the challenge.” Further details and results will appear next week in The New Era.
