For The New Era
Although our choir has been through many choir directors of all sorts, shapes, and sizes, we have finally settled into one that knows the true meaning of organization.
Mr. Clark shows it through his thoroughly detailed itinerary of the upcoming California trip. On May 16, at 5:30 in the morning, the choir, as well as quite a few parents, are departing the high school and taking a 13-hour drive south to San Francisco.
Upon arrival we will have dinner in the historic Chinatown district of San Francisco, and then depart to our hotel in San Jose and spend the night. The next morning we compete in the “Music in the Parks Festival” and take the rest of the day off at Six Flags Great America with all the choirs from the festival until we have an awards ceremony in the park with a chance to win various awards.
Finally, on May 18, we spend the morning hours at San Francisco’s historic Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Warf. Then we will begin our long journey back to Sweet Home.
A great deal of planning has gone into this trip, and unfortunately, so has our funding. We’ve done fund-raisers such as Carol-grams, Val-o-grams, and selling subscriptions for The New Era, and we plan to do many more for our fund-raising goal of next year to buy new choir robes (our current ones have holes in them, stains, odd smells, and are horribly heavy).
This fall, the 2008-09 Concert Choir plans to work for Domino’s at Oregon State University athletic events to earn some money as well.
Also, we invite you to the High School Auditorium for the Spring Choir Concert on May 28 at 7 p.m.
If you feel moved to contribute to the Choir program at Sweet Home High School, donations boxes will be set up at the doors to the auditorium. Anything is greatly appreciated by all of us in the choir.
