Seven candidates running for four City Council seats

Seven Sweet Home residents have filed to run for four City Council seats in the Nov. 4 election.

Two incumbents, Greg Mahler and Bruce Hobbs, will be on the ballot, along with five other Sweet Home residents: Jeff Goodwin, Ryan Underwood, Aaron Pye, James Goble and Anay Hausner.

Councilors Craig Fentiman and Scott McKee Jr. did not file for council, and their terms end on Dec. 31.

The Linn County Clerk’s Office will mail long-term and military ballots on Sept. 19 and out-of-state ballots on Oct. 6. The clerk will mail local ballots on Oct. 15.

During the election, voters will choose up to four candidates for council. The four who receive the most votes win the election.

The top three candidates will serve four-year terms. The fourth-place candidate will serve a two-year term.

Hobbs completes a two-year term and Mahler completes a four-year term on Dec. 31.

Election winners begin their new terms on Jan. 1.

Oct. 14 is the last day for new voter registration. Registered Oregon voters who have moved without updating their registration information have until 8 p.m. on Nov. 4 to update, receive a ballot and vote.
