The Sweet Home City Council approved the Oregon Jamboree’s annual request for permits, street closures, waivers and restrictions last week for the Aug. 1-3 event.
The council voted 5-1 to approve the package, Bruce Hobbs casting the lone dissenting vote and Marybeth Angulo, Craig Fentiman, Mayor Jim Gourley, Dave Trask and Greg Mahler voting yes. Scott McKee Jr. was absent.
The package includes two differences from previous years, said Police Chief Jeff Lynn. The Jamboree is moving RV Campground 5 from its location behind the stage off 18th Avenue to Husky Field.
This will allow the Jamboree to move the stage east to that area to allow additional patrons to attend the Jamboree, Lynn said.
Second, the safety corridor added last year will prohibit parking on the south side of Ames Creek Road from Grape Court to Mountain View Road in addition to the north side, which was added to restrictions last year, Lynn said.
The liquor license remains mostly the same, Lynn said. Beer Garden 1 will be enlarged with the moving of the stage.
The approval includes the following provisions:
– Sankey Park is closed to the general public from 6 a.m. on July 28 to 10 p.m. on Aug. 4 to allow erection of facilities within the park area.
– Partial closures of 14th and 18th avenues, with 1,000 feet of the the west side of 22nd Avenue along Husky Field designated as reserved parking.
– A waiver of the peddler’s license requirement for the Jamboree grounds.
– A waiver of outside police manpower costs and Public Works equipment fees.
– Public address permits for the main stage, the Sankey Park stage and the kickoff party at Safeway on July 31.
– Permission to use city property for beer gardens.
– A waiver of the $50-per-day event fee.
– Staff assistance with the overall goals of the Jamboree.
– Permission to use Public Works property for semi-truck and equipment storage.
– Permission to use the city Event Center area, 4001 Long St., for camping.
