Public input sought on GP assessment review sought

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking public comments on its draft environmental assessment of proposed recreation improvements at Green Peter Reservoir.

The proposed improvements include construction or expansion of developed recreational facilities at Whitcomb Creek Park, Moose Creek Park and Trout Creek Campground. They also include permanent closure of dispersed camping on Corps land along Quartzville Road to Milepost 17.2, just beyond Trout Creek.

Implementation of the dispersed camping closure would begin in 2014. Construction and expansion of recreational facilities could begin later in 2014, depending on funding and other factors.

The draft environmental assessment of the proposals is available for public review and comment at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/Media/Announcements.aspx.

The proposed work is the first phase of implementing the 2011 Green Peter Reservoir Recreation Plan developed by the Corps and Linn County Parks to improve recreation and environmental conditions in the area and ensure compliance with Corps regulations. The plan is available at http://www.linnparks.com/pages/generalinfo/parkplanning.html.
