Cougar spotted again in mid-city

A cougar was spotted again in the 1300 block of Clark Mill Road last week.

The report came in the evening of Oct. 15.

Around that property, there were probably at least five deer visible that evening, said Sweet Home Police Department Sgt. Jason Ogden, who responded to the call.

It is the latest of recent sightings in that area, and the area is connected through old mill property and the rail line to 43rd Avenue, the location of a dramatic standoff between a cougar and an area resident. That standoff was broken up by the sound of a siren from an arriving patrol car.

Following that incident, the Sweet Home Police Department reached out to a U.S. Department of Agriculture biologist.

The biologist had just been pulling cards from cameras he had been using to locate the cougar when the federal government shutdown started, Lynn said, so there hasn’t been any luck yet locating and finding out more about the animal.

Lynn is hoping to make further headway in locating the cat now that the federal shutdown has ended, he said.
