Development Director Hoffman resigns

Brian Hoffman has resigned his position as economic development director with the Sweet Home Economic Development Group to take a position with Waste Connections in Springfield.

“It has been a pleasure working with you over the last three years,” Hoffman said in his resignation to the SHEDG Board. “Having the opportunity to serve as the economic development director for Sweet Home has been one of the highlights of my career.”

“Brian has done an excellent job as Sweet Home’s economic development director,” said SHEDG President Kevin Strong. “He has gained confidence and trust throughout the region. In particular, I appreciate the outstanding job Brian has done assisting local businesses and community organizations. Brian has been instrumental in building a foundation for economic success in East Linn County.

“Waste Connections is adding a tremendous employee. We wish him the best.”

“It’s the people,” Hoffman said. “That’s what made my job easy. Working with all the different groups and volunteers, that’s what makes this work.”

The people of Sweet Home want something better, Hoffman said. That motivates them.

“I think there’s a tremendous amount of potential,” Hoffman said. “Everybody strives for something better in Sweet Home. That’s why I feel very fortunate to be able to remain here and live here and raise my family here. I look forward to that.”

“Sweet Home is poised for continued growth,” Hoffman said in his letter. “Therefore I would encourage you to fulfill your commitment to this community by identifying ways to fund an economic development position.”

He said this in context of SHEDG’s mission: “To effectively lead efforts to enhance and promote thriving diverse economic development in the Sweet Home community.”

“Economic development is a long-term commitment and investment that needs to be built into the budget as a priority,” Hoffman said. “This is not something that can be funded by grants.

“As a member of this community, I look forward to working with each of you in the future to reach Sweet Home’s full potential.”

Hoffman told The New Era that he intends to continue living in Sweet Home.
