More than 500 studentsfrom Sweet Home School District, the Charter School, Central Linn and home schoolers competed in the participated in the Sweet Home Elks Hoop Shoot at the Sweet Home Boys and Girls Club Jan. 19.
At the district competition the following weekend, Hawthorne students Colton Smith and Dominique Slone both placed third.
Dominique said she had never tried basketball until her school competition.
