Dwight Yoakam named as final Jamboree headliner
The Oregon Jamboree this week announced the 2013 Oregon Jamboree’s third headliner, Dwight Yoakam.
Yoakam joins Toby Keith and Luke Bryan at the top of the bill. Yoakam will headline Saturday night, Aug. 3.
The festival will run from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4 on the community field south of Sweet Home High School.
The Jamboree also announced three other artists for the 21st annual festival, including Jerrod Niemann, Kip Moore and Thomas Rhett, joining perennial Jamboree favorite Neal McCoy in the lineup.
Yoakam headlined the Jamboree in 2000. Rhett appeared last year.
“We are so excited about how our line-up is coming together,” said Erin Regrutto, festival director. “Niemann and Moore will put on a great show and Rhett was a fan favorite last year.”
Yoakam brings a long, successful country music career to the Jamboree. Difficult to pin down, he takes a variety of influences and filters them into his own blend of country and rock that honors his musical predecessors and creates something unique.
On his latest album, “3 Pears,” released in September, he collaborates with Kid Rock and Beck as well as Ashley Monroe of the Pistol Annies. Yoakam debuted nationally with “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.” in 1986, with the singles “Honky Tonk Man,” “Guitars, Cadillacs” and “It Won’t Hurt.”
He scored two number-one singles in 1988, including, “Streets of Bakersfield” and “I Sang Dixie,” followed by a string of hits through the 1990s into the last decade, selling more than 25 million albums worldwide, including 12 gold albums, nine platinum or multi-platinum albums and the triple-platinum “This Time.” Five albums topped the Billboard Country Albums chart, and 14 were in the top 10. More than 30 singles have charted, with 22 in the top 20. He has won two Grammy Awards and been nominated 21 times.
Niemann was first known as a song writer, writing for artists such as Garth Brooks, Neal McCoy and Jamey Johnson. In 2010, Niemann released “Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury,” which included his number one single “Lover, Lover” and the hit “What Do You Want.” Niemann released his latest album “Free the Music” in October.
Moore’s debut album was released in April 2012, with the hits “Marry was the Marrying Kind” and “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck.” Moore is also known for his writing. He co-wrote Thompson Square’s “Let’s Fight” and “All the Way.” Moore is currently on tour with Eric Church.
Rhett is the son of country legend Rhett Akins. Rhett also started as a songwriter, co-writing Jason Aldean’s “I Ain’t Ready to Quit.” Rhett’s current single is the hit “Something to Do with My Hands.”
