Highway 20 cycle wreck leaves 2 dead

A Salem couple were killed

Saturday afternoon, Aug. 4, in a mo-

torcycle crash on Highway 20 east

of Sweet Home.

According to Oregon State Po-

lice Trooper Casey Hunter, at ap-

proximately 3:14 p.m. Saturday a

2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle

operated by Edmund Alexander

Cote, 61, of Salem, was traveling

westbound on Highway 20 near

milepost 35, when the motorcycle

veered off the highway onto the

shoulder and struck a guardrail.

Cote’s wife, Joan Root Cote,

58, a passenger on the motorcycle,

was ejected over the guardrail and

down an embankment. The acci-

dent’s location was just west of Me-

near’s Bend.

Joan Cote was pronounced dead

at the scene by Sweet Home Fire and

Ambulance District of

icials.

Edmund Cote was transported

by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Medi-

cal Center at RiverBend in Eugene,

where he was pronounced deceased

after arrival. Both were wearing

protective helmets.

OSP troopers from the Albany

Area Command of

ice are continuing the investigation.
