One-act plays on SHHS bill

The Sweet Home High School theater class will present five one-act plays next week.

“These are student-directed,” said teacher Alain Brown. “Three of them are student-written as well.

“They range from kind of the comedic to a kind of a fantasy to drama; and one play is just kind of a high school life type of thing.”

Twenty-eight students are involved in the plays, Brown said. Quite a few are new to drama.

The class has spent about four weeks on the plays, Brown said. “They look pretty good. They’ve got their lines memorized. They’re working on their sets.”

Among them are “The Spot,” which is about filming a political commercial. Another is called “Running in Circles Screaming.”

Student-written plays include “Dry Water” and “High School is Just a Detour.” A third play had no title as of last week.

“Basically, they come up with the plays, and they’ll do a kind of rough draft of the play, then I’ll make suggestions,” Brown said.

“I let them go, and they rehearse during class,” Brown said.

This is the first of the plays this year, Brown said. There will be another next trimester and the annual school play at the end of the year.

Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students. Proceeds go to the drama department.
