A Hawthorne sixth-grader was the winner in an essay contest for local fifth- and sixth-graders held in May.
Contestants wrote essays of 100 words or less on the topic “Why I like Sweet Home.”
Co-sponsored by the Culpepper and Merriwether Circus, the prize was six tickets to the circus plus a basket of goodies.
