The Sweet Home water polo teams hosted West Albany and Bend last week, with mixed results.

Against West Albany on Thursday, the defending boys and girls state champions, the Huskies were much improved from earlier in the season. The girls lost 12-10 as Laura Gourley led Sweet Home with four goals, Katie Kinney had three, Sami Webb had two and Niccole Simmonds one. Katie Turner contributed two assists, and Simmonds, Gourley, Webb, and Kinney all had one.

The boys lost 8-2 to West Albany, getting goals from Cory Martin and Holden Greene. Goalie Brandon Corteau contributed an assist on one goal.

Against Bend on Friday, the Husky girls exploded for a 20-5 win. Webb led the team with six goals and one assist, Kinney had five goals and two assists, Simmonds and Gourley each had two goals and six assists, Turner had a goal and two assists, and Rachel Maudlin had a goal and Norajean Lemar had a goal and one assist.

The boys had a hard time with the Lava Bears, losing 20-6. Corey Martin scored two goals, for Sweet Home, Alex Stupin added two more, Mauer and Greene each had a goal.
