The City Council approved the placement of eight new stop signs during its regular meeting on Oct. 9.

The stop signs were placed in new subdivisions, most of them in the new Canyon Creek subdivision, based on a March 20 recommendation of the Traffic Safety Committee.

Locations include 27th Avenue at Juniper Street on the southeast corner, 10th Avenue at Alder Street on the southeast corner, 10th Avenue at Alder Street on the northwest corner, Pinetop Street at 10th Avenue on the southwest corner; Pinetop Street at Boulder Ridge Drive on the northeast corner, Park Street at Boulder Ridge Drive on the northeast corner, Timber Street at Taylor Creek Drive on the southwest corner and Timber Street at Boulder Ridge Drive on the northeast corner.

The city will pay the cost for the 10th Avenue stop signs while the others will be placed as part of the owners’ cost of development.

The council also reappointed Britney Price to serve on the city’s Youth Advisory Council in the freshman position and Elric Benson in the seventh-grade position. Their appointments are effective through Aug. 31.

The advisory council still has one high school at-large position, one eighth-grade position and three at-large positions for students ages 12 through 19.

All decisions were approved unanimously. Present were councilors Jim Bean, Eric Markell, Bob McIntire, Scott McKee Jr. and Rich Rowley. Mayor Craig Fentiman and Councilor Jim Gourley were absent.
