Sportsman’s Holiday Princess Schae Pettner says she decided to participate in the Sportsman’s Holiday Court because it would be “a positive way to get involved in the community and even meet new people in Sweet Home.”
Pettner, 18, is one of eight young women who are candidates to be chosen Sportsman’s Holiday queen for the festival, to be held July 13-15. The queen will be crowned on July 12.
She is the daughter of John and Janice Becker.. She has three siblings, Drew, 20, Brad, 20 and Jenna, 22..
Pettner grew up in Lebanon before moving to Sweet Home three years ago. She’s been a cheerleader for Sweet Home High School for two years and was a member of the team that won the state championship this year. She has also served as a referee for indoor soccer at the Lebanon Boys and Girls Club. She works at Spoleto’s restaurant.
“Although I wasn’t raised in Sweet Home, the three years I have lived in this community have changed my life in a positive way,” she said. “Cheerleading competitions make me feel proud of how the small town of Sweet Home is always cheering, pulling together to represent their town. I would like to give back what Sweet Home has given to me – a positive lookout on life.”
Pettner said she plans to attend college after graduation and become a kindergarten teacher.
She said she plans to devote her time and energy by helping out in the community “in any way possible.” She already helps her parents make wood furniture for the annual Boys and Girls Club Auction, she said.
“I am a very motivated person who would be very dedicated to help out my community,” she said.
