Gilliland logging to fund new land purchases

The Sweet Home Cemetery District is logging a strip of land along the city limits, at the north end of Gilliland Cemetery, to raise money to purchase new land for future expansion.

The logging, which has prompted some complaints from city residents who border the cemetery, will raise over $45,000, according to District Supervisor Harland Smith.

Cemetery Board Mike Melcher is overseeing the logging operation, which is being done by a contractor, Smith said.
