Sweet Home’s Ben Schmidt left August 1 (his 17th birthday) for a year-long stay in Germany. He was awarded a fully-funded Congress-Bundestag Scholarship, along with 60 other Northwest students (300 nationwide).
Schmidt will spend his junior year of high school in Krefeld, a town of approximately 250,000, across the Rhine River from Dusseldorf, a major German city. He will live with a host family that has four children, two of whom still live at home.
