A Lebanon man was killed and a Sweet Home woman injured in a two-vehicle crash on March 23 on Highway 34 at the intersection of Goltra Road.
At approximately 7:50 a.m., a 1988 Ford Ranger operated by Charles Lee Parker, 79, of Lebanon collided with a 1989 Hyundai Excel driven by Jeanette “Jan” Raye Lamb (Hackworth).
Parker was deceased at the scene. Lamb was transported to Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with serious injuries.
Witnesses stated that the Ford pickup was stopped on Goltra Road at Highway 34, Oregon State Police said. It pulled out to turn east onto Highway 34 into the path of the Hyundai, which was westbound on Highway 34.
Lamb was in surgery Monday morning, her sister, Gina Riley, said. Her injuries were listed as “non life threatening” when she was taken to Corvallis. She was transferred to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland the day of the accident.
Lamb suffered from multiple fractures and broken bones, including her left arm, left femur with lacerations, right collarbone into the sternum and several vertebrae. As of Monday, she had undergone three surgeries.
She will be in the ICU West Wing for at least two more weeks with a long recovery anticipated, Riley said.
Lamb’s mother is caring for the two grandchildren for whom she is guardian.
The intersection with Goltra Road is about 2.5 miles east of Interstate Five.
Both eastbound lanes were blocked for about three hours. Traffic was reduced to one lane in each direction. Oregon Department of Transportation provided traffic control.
The Albany Patrol Office of the Oregon State Police is conducting the investigation. Members of the Linn County Multi-Agency Accident Investigation Team also responded to assist in the investigation.
A fund to help Lamb and the children has been set up at the Oregon State University Federal Credit Union by her fellow employees and OSU Alumni Association.
