Annamarie Wilson has been singing since she can remember.

She doesn’t know what it is that she enjoys most about it, just that she loves to sing…all kinds of music.

When it’s time to relax, she likes to listen to soft rock. She also likes Native American music too. Her favorite music to sing is gospel or African-American chants.

Jan. 29-Feb. 1, Annamarie attended the Oregon Honors and All-State Festival Concert. High school and middle school students auditioned by tape. For three days and two nights, Annamarie participated in the festival, which was held in Eugene. Practice took up the first two days and she performed on the third day.

According to Annamarie, this concert is held every two years and participants must be accepted by a committee. During her time at the event, she learned eight songs, six of which were in a foreign language.

Cost of the event was $210 with School District 55 picking up half.

Annamarie encourages other students to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in this event. She strongly suggests that anyone who likes to sing should research this opportunity and audition.

Recently, Annamarie received a letter from the Sounds of America informing her she’s eligible for their European tour. The tour lasts a month and is organized by the National Music Educators.
