All veterans will be admitted free to the Huskies homecoming game November 2 against the Molalla Indians as part of a patriotic theme of the event according to SHHS activities director Steve Hummer.
“The leadership class has been working hard on this,” Hummer said. “We plan to have the court ride into the stadium in military vehicles.”
The homecoming half-time show will focus on patriotism and the appreciation we have for those who ensure our safety.
“We will have representatives from the Sweet Home Police Department and Fire Department. The Stock brothers will sing the National Anthem and local veterans groups will have a 21 gun salute. We have borrowed a 30′ by 40′ flag that will be unfurled during half-time,” Hummer said.
Bagpipers will play music, the choir will sing America the Beautiful and the crowd will be asked to participate in a sing-a-long.
“We will have ‘Proud to be an American’ t-shirts on sale,” Hummer said. “Our kids are fired up and working hard on this.”
Leadership class members include Josh Cowards, Andy Volkers, Mahria Zook, Allison Lake, Jeff Briggs, Stephanie O’Brien, Stephanie Miller, Pam Reynolds, Amanda Burcham, Kim Lovik, Ashley Smith, Shaina Burnett, Tracee Scott, Megan Schaefer, Chad Emmert, Lisa Wiens, Kara Howell, Kaci Trask and Brienna Day.
Hummer said this year’s leadership class, including three representatives from each of the four grades, is exceptional.
