Raymond Wood

Oct. 17, 1937 – April 15, 2019

Raymond W. Wood, 82, of Sweet Home, died peacefully April 15, 2019 of multiple organ failure to end a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born Oct. 17, 1937  in Toledo to  Ernest and Hazel Wood, of Sweet Home.

Mr. Wood served in the Oregon National Guard from 1959 to 1967.

He retired from Willamette Industries Foster Division in 1999 with 40 plus years of service. He loved his horses, enjoyed deer and elk hunting, camping and trail riding in the mountains with his horses and wife, Marian.

He was a bull-rider, trained horses and was a farrier for 50-plus years and raised beef cattle.

He married  Marilyn Coffman in  1959 and divorced 1982. He remarried in 1983 to Marian Louise Moody, whom he called the love of his life.

He is survived by his three daughters,  Kate and son-in-law Robert Holmes, Cheryl Kay Wood, and Marian and son-in-law Timothy Turnbull; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Heyne; half-brother Loren Wood; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his aunt Mary Stillwell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian, in 2005; and his parents, Ernest and Hazel Wood. 

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
