Eugene ‘Woody’ Woods

July 14, 1933 – Nov. 12, 2018

Eugene H. “Woody” Woods, 85, of Sweet Home passed away at home on Nov. 12, 2018, with his family present.

Woody served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1972, retiring as a senior chief officer. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Woody served honorably until his retirement and always considered his oath still in force.

Woody was born July 14, 1933 in Longmont, Colo., to Helen (Dagle) and Blaine Woods. He was the eldest of five boys.

He moved to Sweet Home in 1982 with his wife Patti. There they took care of his youngest brother, Vernon who was a quadriplegic. Both preceded him in death.

Woody enjoyed living an outdoor life, fishing, boating, and archery hunting. He was also heavily involved with Boy Scouts of America.

Most recently he enjoyed visiting with the morning crew at Sweet Home McDonald’s for his sausage biscuit.

Woody is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Pal-mer of Sweet Home and Kathi (Robert) Crain of Royal Oaks, Calif.; grandchildren Chas (Chancey) Palmer of Salem, and Dr. Megan Davis of Santa Rosa, Calif.; niece Donnel (Wayne) Steele; and his brother, Glen Woods of Sandpoint, Idaho.

A remembrance service was held Nov. 19, at Fir Lawn Lutheran Church in Sweet Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Fir Lawn Lutheran Church Youth Ministry, 109 Old Holley Road, Sweet Home, OR 97386.
