Feb. 17, 1943 – April 30, 2018
Helen Elizabeth (Baker) Bliege, age 75, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2018 in York Twp., Mich.
Helen was born on Feb. 17, 1943 in Topeka, Kan. to parents Samuel P. and Gladys M. (Cornelius) Baker.
Helen met her husband-to-be, Charles Louis Bliege of Sweet Home, while he was stationed at Forbes Field in the U.S. Air Force in Topeka.
They wed on June 5, 1965 and moved to Corvallis, while Charles attended Oregon State University. Charles worked for White’s Electronics and later, after moving to Sweet Home, was the founder and president of HITEK, Inc. of Sweet Home, a solar heating systems firm.
Charles and Helen had two daughters, Catherine and Rebecca.
After the sudden passing of her husband in 1981, Helen and her daughters moved to Kansas. She worked for the U.S. Dept of Agriculture as a secretary for 20 years before retiring in 2008.
After retirement, Helen moved to Michigan to be near her daughter Catherine and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Walter) Segieda of Milan, Mich.; six grandchildren, Kiersten Harris, Jessica Segieda, Hailey Harris, Johnathan Segieda, Austin Segieda and Aidan Segieda; her sister, Kathy (Jim) Thornburg of Columbia, Mo.; and her brother-in-law, Dwight Vogel of Claremont, Calif.
Helen was preceded in death by her father, Samuel P. Baker Jr.; mother Gladys M. (Cornelius) Baker Hutson; step-father Marvin S. Hutson; her husband, Charles L. Bliege; her daughter, Rebecca S. Bliege; and her sister, Linda J. Vogel.
A memorial service took place on Thursday, May 3, 2018, 3:00 p.m. at Stony Creek United Methodist Church, Ypsilanti, Mich.
