Bertha Compton, 79, of Sweet Home died May 19, 2018.
She was born Feb. 3, 1939 in Park Falls, Wisc. to August and Viola (Cain) Marcks.
Her family moved to Sweet Home in 1948. She volunteered with Sunshine Industries, American Legion and the VFW.
Mrs. Compton loved quilting and bingo. One of her favorite things to do was to spend time with her family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports.
She is survived by her children: Larry (Gina) of Las Vegas, Nev., Cindy (Randy) Groger of Lebanon, Jean (Fred) Bond of Massachusetts, Sheila Schmadeka of Lebanon, Barbara (Kevin) Hoffman and Emma Banta, both of Sweet Home, and Patricia (Troy) Potts of LaGrande; sister Alice (Harold) Postma of Arlington, Wash.; 24 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Compton was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Compton; children Sue Paz and Terry Marcks; and siblings David, August, Mike, Randy, Jim “Chip”, Maynard, Crystal, Dennis, Debbie, Carl and Jack.
Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Sweet Home Mennonite Church.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at Gilliland Cemetery.
