Larry Elliott

May 21, 1936 – March 28, 2018

Larry Eugene Elliott, 81, of Sweet Home died March 28, 2018. He was born May 21, 1936 in Roseburg to Wilbert and Naomi (Young) Elliott.

After losing his father at 3 months of age to a logging accident, he and his mother made their way from Roseburg to reside in Sweet Home in 1936.

He served in the United States Army in the 1950s. His area of specialty was mathematically calculating the trajectory of weaponry. Additionally, he played football for the Army and Boise State, winning one game against Elvis Presley himself.

Mr. Elliott found a niche in real estate for a number of years in the 1970s with his wife Sue. Leaving real estate, he worked for the Sweet Home School District, driving bus from the 1970s until retirement. He has been an active member of the Elks for many years.

Besides following the sports enthusiasm of his sons and grandsons, Mr. Elliott made a “retired career” of building and rebuilding fishing poles and reels of every size and cailber. He attended sales and auctions for supplies for his passion. He also loved reading westerns.

Mr. Elliott is survived by his son, Jubal L. Elliott of Sweet Home; daughter-in-law Candi Elliott of Sweet Home; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol “Sue” Elliott in 2010; and son Oakley Elliott in 2015.

A Celebration of Life potluck is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at The Elks Lodge in Sweet Home.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
