Oct. 25, 1957 – Feb. 21, 2018
Barbara June Heuett, 60, of Sweet Home died Feb. 21, 2018 at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in Albany after a long bout with cancer. Her family never left her side.
She was born Oct. 25, 1957 in Sweet Home to Richard and Norma Conrad.
She married Wayne Heuett on June 24, 1978 and the two of them remained happily together for the rest of her life.
After earning a BA in education with a special ed endorsement from Central Washington University in 1990 (to which she added an MA in education from Lesley University in 2001), Mrs. Heuett taught sixth and seventh graders at Sterling Middle School in East Wenatchee, Washington for 26 years.
She was regularly assigned the students who struggled the most for whatever reason: learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, broken homes, etc.
Mrs. Heuett was superb at her job and genuinely loved her students, even the most difficult ones. As she liked to put it, “someone’s got to love them.”
Upon retirement, she moved back to Sweet Home to be nearer her grandchildren and her beloved sister Jennifer.
Mrs. Heuett is survived by her husband Wayne of Sweet Home; sons Matthew and daughter-in-law Jennifer Heuett of Eugene, and Andrew and daughter-in-law Athena Heuett of Puyallup, Wash.; four grandchildren; siblings Jennifer and brother-in-law Dan Carper of Sweet Home, Keith Conrad and brother-in-law Joe Coplen of Kirkland, Wash., Beth Conrad of Orcas Island, Wash., Victor Conrad of Sherwood, and Richard Conrad, Jr. of Cottage Grove.
A remembrance will be held in May for her immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to local schools and libraries.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
