Ruth Alice Huffman Baker

Ruth Alice Huffman Baker, 94, of Sweet Home passed away on Dec. 6, 2017.

She was born Sept. 14, 1923 in Ethan, S.D. to Henry and Lydia (Sandman) Rumbolz.

She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. She was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, during the Korean War, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

Ruth retired from Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles in 1984 after 17 years of service.

She enjoyed bowling and gardening. She was a long-time member of the Sweet Home Seventh-Day Adventist church.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Frank Gates of Sweet Home; son Roger Huffman of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter Laura Osterkamp of Baker City; and grandsons Cecil Hadley of Sweet Home, McKenzie Sullivan of Baker City, and Emery Huffman of Peoria, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Cecil Huffman; brother Richard Rumbolz; and sisters Ardith Evans, Dorothy Gray and Wanda Heinz.

A reception was held Dec. 11 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made in Ruth’s name to the Salvation Army.
