Dennis Brown
Oct. 15, 1942 – April 10, 2017
Dennis Sherman Brown, 74, a former Sweet Home resident, died April 10, 2017 at Mackenzie-Willamette Hospital in Springfield.
He had been living at the Avemere Nursing Home for the past three years after suffering a stroke following heart surgery.
Mr. Brown was born Oct. 15, 1942 in Long Beach, Calif. He spent most of his life as a merchant seaman because he wanted to travel and see as much of the world as he could in his lifetime.
When he wasn’t working, he spent much of his time traveling with his family and was able to fulfill his wish of experiencing many countries and meeting people everywhere he visited.
On retiring, Mr. Brown lived in several places, including Washington state. When he moved to Sweet Home, he felt that he had truly come to the place he finally felt as if he had found his home.
One of his greatest joys was volunteering for Meals on Wheels, where he met many new friends.
Mr. Brown is survived by his sister, Jerry Ellingson; nieces Heather Lambert and her husband Don, and Andrea Chapman; a grand nephew; uncles Elwood Clark and Alma Kreipl; and many cousins. He also left behind many friends in Sweet Home.
A memorial will be held in Sweet Home at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at The Point Restaurant, 6305 Highway 20.
Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate his life and share memories and stories with each other.
