Reece Joyce
June 3, 1923 – April 20, 2017
Ernest Reece Joyce, 93, of Sweet Home died April 20, 2017.
He was born June 3, 1923 in Nashville, Tenn., to Ernest and Josephine (Green) Joyce, one of 10 children.
He moved out on his own at 16 when he got a job working on a farm.
In 1943 Mr. Joyce was drafted into the Army and served as an engineer until he was honorably discharged after the war ended in 1945.
He had various jobs throughout his life, among them being a grounds-keeper, of which he was particularly fond.
Mr. Joyce thoroughly enjoyed gardening and fishing, as well as reading a good ol’ western novel. He will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his wife Jesse Joyce (Cheek); daughter Icle; son Curt; step-children Susan and Ken; siblings Bill, Chuck, Jim, Betty and Dotti; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life, with military honors, will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 22, at Community Chapel.
Mr. Joyce was a big contributor to the St. Jude Foundation, which he was quite passionate about, which would be a worthy cause for those would like to make a donation in his memory.
Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
