Ray Hampton

Ray Brown Hampton, 78, of Sweet Home died Jan. 15, 2017.

He was born July 3, 1938 in Waynesville, N.C., to William C. and Lorina Frances (Stepp) Hampton.

He was born and raised in North Carolina, and then he moved to Georgia, where he lived for three years. He moved to Oregon in 1955.

Mr. Hampton married Charlene Potter in 1961, and together they moved to Netarts. In 1963, they moved to the Sweet Home area where they raised their family and lived ever since.

Mr. Hampton worked as a high climber and a timber faller his whole life.

He loved to hunt.

Mr. Hampton is survived by his children, Ray B. Hampton of Lebanon, Shannon Hampton of Sweet Home and Kevin Hampton of Sweet Home; sisters Shirley Williamson of Dayton and Evelyn Allison of Bend; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; siblings William, Hollis, Troy, James, Janette, Ernest and Roy Hampton.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
