Burton A. Rochefort

July 8, 1927 – June 1, 2015

Burton A. Rochefort, 87, of Albany passed away on Monday June 1, 2015 at the Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

Burton was born July 8, 1927 in Detroit, Mich., the son of Glenn and Lena (MacDonald) Rochefort. He lived near Detroit throughout his childhood where he attended his schooling.

He served in the Merchant Marines, Army and later in the Army National Guard for several years. He lived near Anchorage, Alaska, where he homesteaded, from 1949 through 1966. He moved to the Mid-Willamette Valley in 1970 and has resided in the Sweet Home, Lebanon and Albany areas since that time. He worked for the federal government with the Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service for 33 years, retiring in 1981.

Burton was a longtime member of the Church of Christ on Hwy 20 in Sweet Home. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and spending time with his family.

Burton married Katherine Nixon in Anchorage, Alaska on June 23, 1956. Katherine preceded him in death on April 13, 2002.

He is survived by seven children: Mary Basl of Sweet Home, Jamie Rochefort of Lebanon, Kenny Rochefort of Vancouver, Wash., John Rochefort of Albany, Tom Rochefort of Sandy, David Rochefort of Lebanon and Karen Leopold of Jackson Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.. Saturday, June 13, 2015, at the Sweet Home Hwy 20 Church of Christ.

Private burial was in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
