Roger Vavrosky

Aug. 29, 1944 – Jan. 28, 2015

Roger Brett Vavrosky, 70, of Albany passed away Wednesday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, following a stroke, with family by his side.

He was born in Portland to James George and Ruth Mary (O’Brien) Vavrosky and moved to Sweet Home in 1954.

Roger graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1963, and earned his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Oregon. He was an avid Duck fan!!

He served four years in the Army, two of them in Vietnam, and was in the National Guard for 14 years.

Roger worked as a purchasing agent for the State of Oregon Workers Compensation Board and was a substitute teacher for many years, retiring in 2007. A big joy for him was officiating football, baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball through the Corvallis Association.

He is survived by son Nicholas of Albany; brothers Ron and his wife Darlene Vavrosky of Sweet Home, Mike and his wife Linda Vavrosky of Juliaetta, Idaho; sisters: Roberta Kruesi of Corvallis, Sherrie and her husband Michael Frank of Philomath; step mother Frances Graf of Lewiston, Idaho; numerous nieces and nephews and good friend Steve Knox.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Vavrosky.

A memorial service will be 11 am Wednesday Feb. 25, at the South Albany Community Church. 2418 Geary Street S.E. Albany, Oregon.

In lieu of flower contributions can be made in Rogers name to a charity of your choice.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
