Dean Swindall

Dean Abbott Swindall, 63, of Sweet Home died peacefully on Jan. 1, 2015, surrounded by his wife and sons.

He was born Jan. 21, 1951 in Portland to Winnifred Marie Abbott and Leslie Elmer Swindall. He married Robin Virginia Schmult on Dec. 10, 2006, in Sweet Home.

Mr. Swindall earned a GED in 1969 and received a certificate as a dental technician. He went on to work as a long-haul truck driver, driving throughout the 48 continental states and Canada.

He spent most of his life in the Willamette Valley, but lived in Washington and Alaska when he was younger.

Mr. Swindall’s hobbies included riding motorcycles, boating and fishing. He loved the Oregon coast and politics. He was always learning new things and “gardening.” Other hobbies included computers, technology, and AM radio.

Mr. Swindall was very well-educated by the world around him. He had a great sense of humor and always found something that could make him chuckle.

He is survived by his wife, Robin; children Zackary Scott Swindall and Frank Eliot Swindall; stepson Nicholas Harris, five grandchildren, and sister Tara Welker-Swindall of St. Helens.

He was preceded in death by his brother, TSgt. Scott Swindall, USAF; and sister Lynn Culbertson.

A celebration of life is planned for noon Saturday, Jan. 17, at Community Chapel in Sweet Home.
