March 13, 1939 – Dec. 17, 2014

James “Jim” E. Namitz, 75, of Sweet Home died Dec. 17, 2014 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born March 13, 1939 in Newberg to Gerald and Grace (Landingham) Namitz.

At an early age the family moved to Sweet Home, where he attended school through his junior year of high school. After graduating from Prospect High School in 1958, he lived in Sweet Home, in Nevada for one year, and in Mill City, before serving in the U.S. Army from February 1962 to February 1964.

Mr. Namitz married Jill Osborn on March 28, 1964. They settled in Sweet Home and raised their two children. He worked for Haley Construction and Lebanon Logging until he retired.

Mr. Namitz loved hunting, fishing, camping, and trips to Reno and the coast until health issues limited his activities. He then enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his family, friends and, especially, his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Sweet Home Elks Lodge for more than 50 years.

Mr. Namitz is survived by his wife, Jill Namitz of Sweet Home; son Jimmy and daughter-in-law Julie Namitz of Albany; daughter Julie and son-in-law Scott Emmert of Sweet Home; brother Lester and sister-in-law Suzie Namitz of Lebanon; three grandsons; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Mr. Namitz was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Namitz.

Contributions in his memory may be made to SafeHaven Humane Society or the Sweet Home Alumni Association in care of Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.

A celebration of life will be held in the late spring.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
