George Duke Butler, 87, of Sweet Home died June 23, 2014.
He was born Dec. 8, 1926 in Leola, Ark. to William Franklin and Carrie Bell (House) Butler, the youngest of four children.
The family moved to the Okanogan Valley in Washington when he was 14 years old.
Mr. Butler served in the United States Navy during World War II. He enlisted when he was 17.
He worked in construction of hydroelectric dams most of his career but he also worked on the Alaskan pipeline.
Mr. Butler is survived by three daughters, Joanne and son-in-law Tom West, Kay and son-in-law Perry Crocker, and JuDee Butler; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother Bill and his wife Evelyn Butler; his longtime companion Gladys Hayes and her daughters: Debbie Reeves, Melanie Langdon; Gladys’ five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Butler; brother Bob; sister Mary Pickering; and grandson Christopher James Duke.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 28, at his beloved property in Holley, 25644 Rice Road, Sweet Home. Dinner was served afterward.
