Cherie Crystal Johnson

April 11, 1936 – June 21, 2014

Cherie Crystal Johnson, 78, of Sweet Home passed away Saturday. She was born in Oregon City to Reuben Ervin and Dorothy Lee (Starr) Zacher.

She served in the Women’s Army Corps from 1954 – 1956 and then re-enlisted in the army until 1959.

Cherie graduated in Vale, Oregon, in June of 1954. She married while she was in the service and they later divorced. She moved to Sweet Home in the early 60s. She then met and married Roy Lavern Johnson. Cherie and Vern spent most of the 70s in Northern Idaho to work logging for Cedar Shake Mill. They lived in Fernwood and other small communities near St. Maries, Idaho for several years. There they met and maintained several long term friendships. They returned to Sweet Home in 1977.

She was a member of the VFW. She loved painting, cooking and sewing. She was charitable and very caring to others.

Cherie is survived by her sister-in-law Sharon and her husband Roger Conner of Sweet Home; half brother Rowell (Rowdy) and his wife Irene Dodson of Alamosa, Colorado; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy “Vern” L. Johnson; sister Charmain Noyes; and her parents.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Sweet Home VFW Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
