Berlin Smith, 93, of Sweet Home died June 7, 2014.
He was born Sept. 9, 1920 in Waynesville, N.C. to Curtis and Alice (Mull) Smith.
In 1947 he moved from North Carolina to Vader, Wash. He moved to Oregon from Vader in 1952 and settled in Sweet Home.
Mr. Smith was a logger, road builder and catskinner for various logging companies in the area.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, raising cattle and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl of Sweet Home; sons Jack and daughter-in-law Sandra Smith, and Jerry and daughter-in-law Cindy Smith, all of Sweet Home, and Burl and daughter-in-law Kris Smith of Albany; a daughter, Connie and son-in-law Greg Schaffer of Lebanon; one sister, Elsie Brown of Keizer; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; 11 siblings and one great-granddaughter.
Viewing will be at noon Saturday, June 14, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel, with a funeral service following at 1 pm.
