Dan Cleo Paddock, 89, of Sweet Home died Feb. 21, 2014.
He was born July 7, 1924 on the family homestead on Paddock Lane in Sweet Home to Vincent and Louisa (Smith) Paddock.
Mr. Paddock served in the United States Army, in the cavalry, during World War II. During his service he was in North Africa,
Sicily and participated in the invasion of southern France. He received three Bronze Stars, including one at the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Paddock married Lois D. Bastian in June of 1947. They had four children and later divorced.
He worked at saw mills and logged around Sweet Home.
He loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed cutting fire wood and continued doing that until about six months ago. He was always outdoors.
Mr. Paddock is survived by his sons, Dee and daughter-in-law Shirley of Alpaugh, Calif., and Ray and daughter-in-law Lisa of Sweet Home; daughter Linda of Sweet Home; his youngest sister Betty Lou Wilhelm of Heppner; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Louise (Maggie); son Larry Allen Sr.; sisters Zeldia Darby, Lela Walker Pace and Arlene Wilhelm; and brothers Samuel Dean and Linn Paddock.
A graveside service, with military honors, was held Feb. 25 at Liberty Cemetery, with a memorial gathering at the Sweet Home American Legion Hall following the service.
