Edgar George “Ed” Pitts, Sr., 71, of Sweet Home died July 4, 2012 at his home.
He was born Jan. 11, 1941 in Denver, Colo., the son of George A. and Leta Mae (Hand) Pitts. His early years were spent in Kansas; he moved to Crawfordsville in his early teens, attending local schools before entering the U.S. Army.
Mr. Pitts married Ila Jeanne Withrow on June 24, 1961 in Sweet Home. He worked for several mills, including Champion Plywood and Stone Forestry. He was a certified journeymen welder and worked for Oremet, H & R Failing, and in maintenance at the Target Warehouse.
He married JoAnne Lutton on Jan. 12 of this year after being together over 10 years.
Mr. Pitts’ favorite activity was fishing anywhere – particularly for catfish at the Snake River. He enjoyed hunting, welding and making things, and garage sales. He saved everything.
Survivors include his wife JoAnne; two daughters, DeAnna and son-in-law Alan Birdsall of Bellingham, Wash., and Ronda and son-in-law Ted Deibele of Milton Freewater; five sons, Ed Jr. and daughter-in-law Dorrie Pitts of Lebanon, Thomas Pitts II, Greg and daughter-in-law LeAnna Pitts of Sweet Home, Garry and daughter-in-law Brezy Pitts of Sweet Home, and Brad and daughter-in-law Debbie Pitts of Lebanon; two brothers, Thomas Pitts of Sweet Home and Steve Pitts of Lebanon; a sister, Peggy Dain of Crawfordsville; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Lee William Pitts; a great-grandson, Alexander Joseph Gray; his parents; and a sister, Patricia Johnson.
Funeral Services were held July 7 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel with committal at Crawfordsville Union Cemetery.
