Florence Krater

March 12, 1936 – Feb. 6, 2012

Florence M. Krater, 75, of Sweet Home died at her home Feb. 6, 2012.

She was born March 12, 1936 in Sweet Home to James Oliver and Gladys (Coonrod) Deffenbaugh.

In the many places she lived she had many adventurous work experiences and she met many people. She was the first woman stock car driver in Hawaii. She also worked in security for the TV show “Magnum PI” and airport security at the Honolulu airport. Mrs. Krater returned to Sweet Home in 1986 to care for her parents. She was head cook at the Spring Restaurant in Sweet Home.

She loved playing bingo at the Elks and VFW. She loved arts and crafts, crocheting, painting and collected any type of Santa Claus figurine.

Mrs. Krater is survived by her children, son Pete Krater of Sweet Home, and daughter Tammy and son-in-law Robert McVicker of San Antonio, Texas; siblings Ella, Charles, Sharon, Shirley, Barbara, Leonard; three grandaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers John Vernon Deffenbaugh and James Edward Deffenbaugh; sister Jean Laney; and daughter-in-law Sue Krater.

A graveside service was held Feb. 10 at Gilliland Cemetery.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
